Gender equality is another cross-cutting dimension of the 2030 Agenda. Additionally, SDG 5 sets out specific targets to reduce gender inequalities and to increase women’s protection and empowerment. Global commitments in this respect include the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and the systematic mainstreaming of a gender perspective in policymaking.
The Elcano Royal Institute analyses how gender norms are effectively embedded in development cooperation and foreign policy, and in turn disseminated across the world. It also pay special attention to the UN Security Council landmark resolution on Women, Peace and Security, which reflects the twofold perspective of gender mainstreaming as protection and empowerment.
